Green Fingers

Sorry, we have currently filled all our vacancies for this post. Keep any eye out for future openings.

A bit about this role

Whilst we do everything we can to find new and loving homes for the cats in our care, it is a reality that our feline friends will have to spend some time in a rescue environment. Our ‘green fingers’ volunteers use their passion for the outdoors to help make our Cats Protection sites welcoming and enjoyable places for cats, people and wildlife. Cats are more likely to be rehomed if they are content in their environment, and members of the public are more likely to visit their local Cats Protection site if it is an enjoyable place to be.

What can you expect to be doing?

  • Cutting grass and hedges

  • Weeding, planting and preparing pots

  • Using tools, gardening equipment and machinery

  • Managing our green spaces all year round

What are the benefits to you and the cats?

You will develop new skills, expand your knowledge and make a significant contribution to improving the lives of cats and kittens in care by enriching their surrounding environment. You will also meet new people, make new friends and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers.

We’re looking for someone with

  • A passion for the outdoors

  • A creative flair

  • An understanding of health and safety

  • Confidence in using gardening equipment

  • Knowledge and confidence in gardening (would be an advantage)

Time expectation

Our ‘green fingers’ volunteers usually spend 2 to 8 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. The hours required might vary between sites, and during different seasons.

Additional information

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. To make sure this is the case, we provide support and guidance both remotely from our National Cat Centre and face to face through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We also offer varied online and face to face training and have wide-ranging policies covering all aspects of volunteering. We hope the support we provide will ensure our volunteers have a great experience with Cats Protection.
